The Khunjerab Pass from the Pakistan side. It's fair to say that the tarmac abruptly stops here!!
So far, so good - by now this represents a 'good' road for us!
Rocky, gravelly AND and a hairpin-filled descent... now we're talking!
Everyone is loving the warm welcome extended by the Pakistani people. James is particularly happy to be back!
Our first landslide. Must be fresh as there's not much of a queue yet. The boys investigate possible ways through. (Em meanwhile tries to use her mental powers to move the rocks!)
A digger came to rescue with the landslide. Soon we have descended into the valley where there are water obstacles to negotiate.
Having assessed conditions on foot we ride through our first water crossing - there'll be countless more in the coming days!
Em reaches the river - to says it's wild, violent and untamed would be an understatement!
Em's initial nerves quickly evaporate and she's soon loving riding through such awesome scenery.
