It feels weird to be entering a country by plane, not to mention the fact it's Christmas Day!
Saigon is more modern than we expected but more traditional images still abound.
Having a wander through Ban Thanh market, James and Darren inadvertently pose like a couple!
The market is full of weird and wonderful things.
Now this is much more like it; London, take note!
A F5 Tiger, one of many bits of American military kit outside the War Remnants Museum.
The iconic Huey.
A rare moment when a road is at a standstill. Now imagine if all of these were all moving in different directions!
We visit a food and culture festival in the park.
Emily finds a wine stall, it's been a long time!
A small show is put on in the park, captivating the locals. It looks colourful.... sounds horrendous though!
James is persuaded to try a traditional Vietnamese drink containing black slime and what looks like frog spawn (centre and right).
Sadly it's not one of those things that tastes better than it looks!
James tries to share it with the group but Darren and Em are having none of it!
First stop on our day trip - the Cao Dai Holy See temple.
Our first glimpse of worshippers heading for prayer hints that it might be colourful.
Watching scenes from the gallery, it's most definitely colourful!
The building's not exactly bland either!
At a government run workshop for the victims of Agent Orange. Here a woman painstakingly creates a mosaic from broken eggshell (see finished products on right).
Sand is added to create texture.
Mother of pearl is cut by hand into precise shapes.
The mother of pearl pieces are inlaid into hand carved wooden tablets. The detail is unbelievable!
Our guide at the Cu Chi tunnels gives us an insight into life for the Viet Cong.
Unbeknown to us, we're standing by the entrance to a tunnel...
It's been specially 'widened' for westerners. Em finds it's still a very tight fit!
James squeezes in!
There's no room to move inside and at the bottom in the start of a tunnel. It's impossibly small and we're still not sure how anyone actually physically got into it!
It's a real effort to get out!
